When people manage supplements for humans to dogs, how do you know they are effective in dogs?

I see people here say that supplements used were made for human beings to their dogs because they think it is cheaper to purchase such as buying products designed for dogs. (It seems to come more often when we talk about glucosamine / chondroitin products MSM /.) Since because we know that dogs have digestive systems significantly from humans and metabolize drugs, how can you give the dog a supplement to the man known to be effective in dogs? Why do people who do it think they give their dogs the proper dosage and it is to maximum effect? Could it be the ingredients (labeled as active or inactive) in these supplements that are safe for human consumption, but insufficient for dogs? I do not want to offend anyone, I'm really curious.

Many times, there is duplication of medications and supplements can be used both for people and dogs. For example, Prozac. It's much cheaper to buy the generic man what is the dog version called Reconcile. Is the drug itself. Supplements are the same. It is fairly easy to obtain the dose for your dog then the dose in a commercial version of the human being. You have to see if the ingredients. Some ingredients may not be given to dogs, they are active or inactive. For example, Rescue Remedy. Is sold both to individuals and pets. Animals version is alcohol. The version of the man comes in both directions. If you get the free version of alcohol that you and your dog can share the bottle. So yes, be careful, but you can. If in doubt, call your vet and ask.
